Around 50 cars have been covered with what seems to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Cars, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a release.
Law enforcement report they were contacted late on Wednesday evening, when a resident observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued liquid.
The substance had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.
Police then found many other marked cars and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement report preliminary tests indicate the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; officials are not yet cognizant of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to solve the case" and have appealed to the residents for information.
A senior representative said the attack left him speechless and needed to be solved rapidly.
"This event hits the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he posted on a platform, recalling the death of nine people by a assailant targeting individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
